I'm Pen. I design and build the systems that run complicated businesses, all the way through: the first idea, the thing that goes live, and the machine that keeps it going after.
It started with one business. A gem business that sells rare stones live on camera, in HD, the way almost nobody does. The storefront turned out to be the small part. Underneath it, the inventory, the customer records, the pricing and the sync jobs that keep all of them agreeing had been living in per-seat software that was never shaped like the business. So I built the system it actually runs on: one WordPress plugin that grew to thirty-two modules, moved the customer records off Keap into a Notion brain, took the catalog from 244 indexable pages to 3,720, and shipped sixty-three versions to a live store in twenty-seven days without a rollback.
That is where I learned the fork I keep meeting. A business can have a page sitting on top of somebody else's system, or it can have one system, shaped like itself, with the interface and the database and the admin the staff actually live in all agreeing with each other. I only build the second kind, and I build it alone, start to finish, with no handoff in the middle where the thinking gets dropped. It is how I work by default rather than a tier I sell.
The range since then does not add up to one industry, and that is the part I enjoy. A public-record system that pulls nationwide data down to the district and holds the sourcing line so nothing publishes that cannot be proved. A word maker that creates from real etymological roots and grades itself before it ships one. A native app that routes the web's pull outward, into your own reading and making, built for how a particular mind actually does. What ties them together is the kind of problem I like, hard and whole, and that I stay on it until it actually works.
